Michael was raised on a mixed cropping and sheep farm in the Waimate district and completed his schooling in Waimate. After leaving school he obtained his first job working on a mixed cropping farm at Leeston. At the end of 12 months, he then made the move south to Heriot farming both sheep and beef, which included a Murray Grey stud. The lure of travel started to beckon and Michael trained as a shearer and for the next 5 years travelling throughout New Zealand and around the world shearing along with a wide variety of other jobs, finally coming home to settle in Waimate 1992. It was here where Michael met his wife Rebecca and they now have 3 children, purchased and sold several farms, starting with sheep and mixed cropping properties, then in turn leasing their farm out for 5 years. In this time Michael became a stock agent working for Pyne Gould Guinness Limited until 2006. After the end of the lease he sold his farm and brought a dairy farm at Temuka, milking for 7 years and selling the property in the spring of 2013. They have now settled on a farm just north of Timaru. Socially, sport has been a major part of Michael’s life, and his family’s. He has been involved in Rugby clubs for many years mostly in Waimate & Pleasant Point. And as a family, they have all been involved with rugby, hockey and netball as well as the summer sports of tennis, cricket, athletics and water skiing. Looking for a new challenge Michael settled on Real Estate where he can utilise his energy and “can do attitude”. He wants to be the one to answer those questions you may have, give honest feedback, and provide you with options you may not see. Being a solution based person Michael likes to think outside the square. He enjoys working with people and can see the potential in most situations. He prides himself on identifying goals and achieving them through hard work. It is his desire to give his clients the best service possible and his lateral thinking will be your biggest asset in marketing your property. Since starting back in March of 2014 Michael has had a significant success in rural real-estate, receiving the Rising Star award for Property Brokers (Rookie of the year) and then winning the 2015 REINZ Rising Star award for excellence in Rural Real Estate for New Zealand. This success has come through a lot of miles, meetings and talking on the phone and Michael’s commitment to his clients is still continuing today, recently reflected by featuring in the company’s top 10 awards for the 2015/2016 year. (4th in Rural in New Zealand) Michael is supported by a very experienced rural team in Mid Canterbury who are consistently featuring as one of the best rural offices in the country. Michael operates by understanding both sides of the fence, and listening to what his clients are trying to achieve, he is not afraid to ask questions and search for answers. Most importantly he feels contact with both the vendor and purchaser is essential. Michael feels it is especially vital after the viewing of a property to contact the vendor within in hours of leaving by a quick phone call with an overview of how the visit went. This is his standard practise, and the door is always open for communication. |
